A Systematic Review on Transformational Leadership and Academic Performance in Post-Conflict Settings: Implications for Educational Planning in Ghana

Abraham Fletcher 2026 International Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies and Innovative Researchs

Abstract

Post-conflict areas in Ghana face disrupted schooling, teacher shortages, trauma, and weakened school culture. Transformational leadership is promoted as a strategy to rebuild school climate and improve academic outcomes. This systematic review explores the relationship between transformational leadership and academic performance in post-conflict educational settings, with implications for educational planning in Ghana. Using PRISMA guidelines, peer-reviewed studies published between 2017 and 2025 were analyzed across diverse regions including Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The findings reveal that transformational leadership fosters resilience, motivation, and improved academic outcomes in fragile contexts. However, challenges such as trauma, resource scarcity, and teacher attrition persist. Strategies for mitigating these challenges include psychosocial support, community engagement, and leadership training. The review concludes that embedding transformational leadership principles into Ghana’s educational planning can strengthen post-conflict recovery and enhance student performance.
