Agile co-creation and digital entrepreneurship Nexus: A systematic literature review and future research agenda

While existing literature reviews and agenda-setting articles in digital entrepreneurship (DE) offers valuable insights, they fall short of providing a holistic understanding of the nexus between agile co-creation and DE. To address this gap, the current study conducts a systematic literature review (SLR) considering three largest academic databases: Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar, and includes 117 research articles for content analysis and synthesis. Based on the findings, the study proposes an integrated framework that conceptualises the agile co-creation –DE nexus through three core thematic dimensions: (i) primary motivations; (ii) principal challenges and critical success factors; and (iii) anticipated outcomes. It further introduces an agile co-creation typology that demarcates four modes: opportunity discovery, rapid learning, strategic agility, and incremental innovation, reflecting how agile co-creation evolve across varying levels of uncertainty and organisational adaptiveness. For future research, the SLR highlights the need for a multi-level analytical approach that captures the interactions among individual entrepreneurial behaviours (micro), institutional and social dynamics (meso), and broader digital and regulatory environments (macro). Given that research on the agile co-creation and DE nexus remains in its formative stage, this review and agenda contribute to advancing theoretical development in the field, while also providing practical guidance for entrepreneurs and policymakers to leverage agile co-creation in DE contexts.
