Cybercrime And the Impact of Digital Technologies on The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS)
Abstract
Digital technologies have revolutionised the world, driving geometric growth, productivity, efficiency, and innovation. These technologies play a crucial role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offering tremendous opportunities for economic growth, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability. However, along with these benefits, digital technologies also pose significant risks, particularly cybercrime, which threatens individuals, institutions, and nations. This study highlights the roles of digital technologies in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how such roles are hampered by cybercrime. It addresses the threat that cybercrime poses to digital technologies, the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the impact that these risks have on Nigerian society. The study, employing expository methods, addresses some key questions, such as: How have digital technologies benefited humanity in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? How has cybercrime sullied the benefits of digital technologies? By exploring the impact of cybercrime on SDGs, this research underscores the need for robust cybersecurity strategy and promotes responsible digital technology use to achieve a secure and sustainable future. The research advocates for cyber ethics as a viable path forward. It highlights the importance of using digital technologies with care and responsibility to achieve a secure and sustainable future.
