An MDOI name is a persistent digital identifier for any object, physical, digital, or abstract. It helps institutions and users track resources reliably and access them even when underlying URLs change.

How it works: Each MDOI is structured as two parts: a numeric prefix (e.g. 110.0014) and a unique item suffix, joined by /.
