WHAT IS THE META DIGITAL OBJECT IDENTIFIER (MDOI)?

An MDOI name is a persistent digital identifier for any object, physical, digital, or abstract. It helps institutions and users track resources reliably and access them even when underlying URLs change.

Try resolving an MDOI name

Type or paste a known MDOI exactly, including its prefix and suffix, then submit to resolve it.

mdoi.org/

Example: 110.0014/abc.2026.00001

How it works: Each MDOI is structured as two parts: a numeric prefix (e.g. 110.0014) and a unique item suffix, joined by /.

When you prepend mdoi.org/, the identifier becomes a resolvable URL that forwards users to the current resource destination.

An MDOI name is a digital identifier for any object — whether physical, digital, or abstract. MDOIs solve a common challenge: keeping track of things over time, ensuring persistent access even when underlying URLs change.

MDOI platform readiness and capabilities

A modern persistent-identifier platform requires reliable registration, low-latency resolution, governed metadata, and secure operations.

Identifier Registration

Create unique prefix/suffix IDs, prevent duplicates, and support batch registration workflows.

Resolution Services

Resolve identifiers through API and HTTP redirects with mirror-target and failover support.

Metadata Governance

Maintain schema-based JSON/XML metadata with update history and standards compliance.

Security and Analytics

Use RBAC, API authentication, audit logs, and link health plus resolution analytics.
